Designing a medical‑grade experience for everyday use

Clue is a female health and cycle‑tracking app used by more than 12 million people worldwide. During my time there, I worked as Design Lead across both product and brand design, shaping the visual language and guiding the teams through several major releases.

Deep dive: Clue Contraception

One of the most demanding projects was Clue Contraception, a feature that qualified as a medical device and required FDA clearance. This meant designing with clarity and accessibility that met strict medical‑grade standards. I worked closely with science, product, and regulatory teams to translate complex logic into something calm, trustworthy, and easy to navigate.

UI makeover

Before we could design the feature itself, we needed a complete UI overhaul. The existing interface wasn’t robust enough for medical‑grade communication, so we refreshed the entire system: cleaner structure, a coherent design system hierarchy, improved accessibility, and a more modern, breathable UI. This created the foundation for a safe, compliant, and user-centered experience.

Designing the feature

Deep dive: Clue Contraception

With the new system in place, we designed Clue Contraception as a guided, transparent experience that helped users understand their daily status without overwhelm. The outcome was a feature that met FDA requirements while still feeling like Clue — supportive, clear, and grounded in science. It became one of the most significant product milestones during my time at the company.
